One of my new year's resolutions (a combination of good and neurotic ones) was to manage a blog (i would say that was a good one)
Within the first week, I was sitting in front of blogger, and they asked "Blog title" my mind drew a blank and I shelved the project.
Then yesterday, I was sitting in the living room with my flatmate's girlfriend, and I saw her blogsite was emilyinsingapore.blogspot.com.
Being the original uncopycat that I am, I registered for the site stacyinsingapore.blogspot.com. Brilliant genius. ha.
I've been in Singapore since September 2005, and hmm, not much of a culture shock, but my time here definitely gave me some huge eyeopener experiences. Might as well document and share them right?
From an outsider looking in, I was shocked that Singapore has Geylang (legalised red light district?). Maybe I moved here thinking that Singapore was such a clean wholesome city-country. Not that having a legalised red light district is wrong, just something I didn't expect. The rationalisation is that Singaporean men need an outlet, if not there would be a lot of 'rapist' on the streets (Many people have shared this view with me). Although, that doesn't imply that rape doesn't happen in Singapore. Actually, every 3 days there is 1 reported case of rape. (check out www.aware.org.sg)
Um, something else...the night life here is quite HAPPENING!!! Haha, its great to be a girl in Singapore. Wednesday night is ladies night. Which ridiculously implies free flow of liquor at some clubs; other clubs it means free entry. Oh and I just found out from Martin (flatmate) that Insomnia (Guys listen up!) its free flow for MEN from 9-11, (Girls from 9-12)
It is possible to party every night from Wednesday-Sunday. My best friend Grace flew over and it was an incredible hardcore partying vacation. Any questions on places to go? Ask me!
I would say a quite a number of people who use the services at Geylang are married. Thus another life lesson: people cheat. And somehow there is justification for it. Its sickening really. Not really singapore-specific, but I learnt last year that sometimes you don't get to be with your 'soulmate' and/or even when you are with your 'soulmate' you could cheat. quite heartbreaking.
Oh random things to sum this post up fast.....
1. Girls, don't sit in the front seat when in the cabs...because...
2. Some Taxi drivers (uncles) ask passengers to be their girlfriends in exchange for a fee. (er..like a PROSTITUTE. got verbally harassed, 45min cab ride across Singapore. that night was all about bad decisions.)
3. LOR MEE and YONG TAU FOO are AWESOME.
4. ATMs charge 2% commission if you use an international ATM card to punch out money.
5. Don't give money away too easily (Got cheated by a BASTARD real estate agent Roger Wong, I gave him commission too fast, the deal went sour, when I found another place to stay through a friend he refused to give me the commission back.)
6.VOIPCHEAP.com, is amazing. Can call some countries for free, if not the charge is very little.
7. MAMBO isn't a latino dance, its RETRO night....think...retro music to an aerobic beat. ha!
8. Its good to indulge in guilty greasy foods like...um..MURTABAK and Char Kway Teow (sp?)
9. Friends come and go, when they go you survive. Friends that stick should be hugged and cherished.
10. Time flies...fast when you are having fun, even faster when you have so many things to do...and when time flies slowly...you take a breath...
